Art Cataloging
As an artist when you have finished your piece of art and are ready to promote it, it’s important to track that piece. By cataloging it, you can keep track of where it is and where it will eventually be sold. You can also keep track of who purchases it from where. This information helps you understand which objects are performing well and which ones are not. Also, which galleries are doing well for which objects.
As a collector it’s important to track where to purchase your artwork and how keep that information safe and secure.
This system is called a collection management system, and there are various database programs that can help you keep track of your object/artwork. I have over thirty years of experience cataloging decorative arts objects in historical societies and of artists. I have used many database systems and have found which ones work well and which are very cumbersome for an artist or collector to keep track of their work. For artists who want complete control of a tracking system, that has a photograph of their work with a title, dimensions, date made and price, my recommendation is Artwork Archive. If you are working with many different artists’ works and are creating a collection my recommendation is either Artwork Archive or Collective Access. The major difference between the two systems is that Collective Access has an ID number which must be created for each object/artwork and Artwork Archive does not need this. Collect Access ID number system is good as a collector, because you can design it anyway you want. Such as the Initials of the artist, then the date purchased.
I have a good understanding of both programs and can teach either one.
I am available to keep track of your objects/ or purchases for you.
I also am available for quick questions and information about either program. Please contact me at CuttingCataloging@gmail.com. If you would rather work on your own, I can help you set up your account and walk you through the first steps. I can be available for questions or any level of help.
